The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service report that at just before 01:20 on Sunday 15th February a fire occurred in a first floor bedroom at a residential care home for the elderly at Balhousie, Dundee.

Three appliances were mobilised to the incident at this 3 storey building, constructed of block work with internal timber partitions and metallic roofing. Upon arrival it was found that a single, recessed sprinkler head in the affected bedroom had actuated and suppressed the fire which was confined to bedding material. Scottish FRS personnel were then able to extinguish the fire and ventilate the room without too much difficulty

It is reported that damage was limited to 16m² of the 965m² building and none of the 46 persons in the building at the time of the fire was injured. According to Scottish FRS reports, business continuity was also unaffected.

The sprinkler system is reported as having been installed to BS 9251:2004 with water supplied from a tank via a pump.
